Hello all,
Thanks for everyone who attended last Saturday, we had a great turnout and got a lot of really invaluable information. A big thank you to Wayne Brejcha for his amazing presentation of work and Calabash showcase, he really helped to show some new animators how important life drawing and traditional art skills are. Full notes are now listed on the meeting section at www.catnapchicago.com, just click the March 10th link. We had a turnout of 20-25 people and got some great ideas for upcoming events.
I have updated the site with a few new items including a new video for the home page. It’s just a small self-portrait of James Baxter, it’s a great little clip he animated and I thought you would all enjoy it as well. For those of you who do not know who James Baxter is….PLEASE RESEACH! He is a legendary Disney animator that got his career start on “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, amazing work.
I have also come across another great link form the animators at Pixar; for those of you who really enjoy www.animationpodcast.com then please see splinedoctors.blogspot.com/index.html. These are Pixar animators that get together and discuss animation, the podcast is free and extremely interesting, their latest podcast being and interview with Brad Bird!
And lastly, thank you to David Daruszka for this useful info on and upcoming KAFI competition, we could even use CATNAP in May as a critique session for anyone thinking about entering.
KAFI Announces Signal Films
Open call** to all studios, filmmakers and would-be filmmakers: Be a
part of KAFI by producing your OWN trailer for our festival! Entry
rules apply.
Festival trailers, often called “signal films” are those short
(generally 15 seconds or less) pieces that appear at the beginning of
every screening showcasing the festival’s name in an inventive and
entertaining manner.
Usually, signal films are made by a local studio, post secondary school
or independent artist but this year KAFI is going interactive. We are
inviting you to be a part of the festival, to make your own signal film
for KAFI.

Thanks again to everyone helping CATNAP grow!
